i got an idea from an add in " the mini experience" on page 21 top left hand corner. there is an add for moke shells and wheels and bumper. wodnering if i putt an engine in one, would it be considered a moke or just a replica? and for each what kind of value would it be worth for re-sale straight afterwards? |

you need to reshell an existing car, using an original ID plate... I guess it'd be worth the same as any other restored moke. I wonder how many of those shells are getting around, as they've been selling them for a few years. Maybe they are popular with the rental mobs in QLD ? |

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27057 This is being also discussed down here , check with the RTA and the supplier of the body to see if it's legal to be used on the road as a simple reshelling or does it need to be approved as a "new" low production volume car like a kit car does . |

I was thinking about this exact scenario the other day. The few of these shells I have seen on the road have had a quiet VIN swap - technically illegal. Accoring to the forms, Victorian Club Permit / Historic Rego requires the vehicle to be 25 years old or a replica of such a vehicle. I wonder if building up a new car with one of these shells could be considered a replica of a Moke and hence eligible for Historic rego. eg: It's a replica of a 1975 Moke? ![]() |

Not quite, that's technically illegal, as it's effectively a sneaky identity swap. What I'm referring to is legally having a replica of a Moke and being honest about it. Might give VicRoads a call. ![]() |

Just got off the phone to VicRoads. No laughing involved. ![]() It is quite legal to create a replica of a vehicle over 25 years old and put it on Historic Registration. This includes a replica built up of all new parts or a combination of used parts and a new shell whcih repicates an original shell. Some sort of doccumentary evidence is required form the club to state that the vehicle is a replica of a 19XX year car. Note that a replica such as this could never qualify for full registration. EDIT: VicRoads would issue a VIN for the replica. ![]() |

This is what I was thinking about. I have the plates (that I 'acquired') for a 1975 Moke that is dead, in fact very dead. The idea came about from the Mini Experience, but I was told by an owner of a local mini parts supplier in Adelaide (not saying any names) that he thought they were crap when he saw them. But I would make up my own mind on it. If they seem well built and are very original then I'd go for it and then attempt to get it registered as a rebodied 1975 Moke. |

I think the stumbling block for rego here in Oz is the fact that a Heritage shell has no body number, let alone a VIN. Nor probably do these `Moke' bodies. So, if you put your VIN plates or numbers on it you are technically rebirthing it, in the eyes of Mr Plod. Didn't Chris (from Helensburgh) have this same problem with his `last off the Oz production line' van shell? |

Yeah....but how do Hot Rodders get a T-Bucket registered....jay-zus ![]() ![]() ...I suppose Plod could also say that the shell is not compliant with Australian ADRs etc (as stupid as it sounds) as they do for post 1989. How ridiculous is all this when they allow bodged up wrecks on the road because they are two urine weak to mandate annual inspections. I know of an authorised re-birth based on the argument that the car was historically significant. We are being way over-regulated IMHO....grumble, grumble ![]() |
