Post subject: | Finding Bolts to match the motor |
hi, i have just brought a incomplete 1275 mini engine, but the guy which i have brought it off hasn't put the the bolts in named bags, instead he has put them all i one jar. i know where the main bolts and heads,go,but i have like 50 small left bolts left, but he has given me all his old parts from his car. the motor is going away soon to the engine reborers, so would anyone reckon that i should do a quick engine build to find out what bolts go where. doe anyone know where i can et picture or information of where all the bolts go on a mini engine, if you understand what i'm saying. thanks |

I have found mostly it is a matter of maths, you need 6 bolts to go in here and here are 6 of the same bolts that look about right. As a rule of thumb the minimum length a bolt should go in a hole is 1 1/2 times its diameter threaded into the housing or wherever, twice it's length into alloy housings. It's always fun to find how many you have left over and where they are missing from, thats why all workshops have a bolts jar. |

Can i ask, without trying to sound/be rude, If you don't know what bolts go where, how will you know how to put the whole engine together?? All I am saying is that if you gave the bottle of bolts to an engine builder, he should be able to work it out no problems... |

We had some spares after putting an engine back together because we used 2 mini engines to get all the ancilliaries. My Dad (who was teaching us about engines and helping us build it) said "There is no point in doing a job if you aren't going to get anything out of it" ![]() |
