Post subject:  2 Questions (with pics)

Just a couple more questions while I remember...

There is a little knob on the drivers side, below and to the right of the steering wheel. It has a P and an arrow pointing right on it (see pic). Can anyone tell me what it's for? It doesn't appear to do anything when turned.

Also.. we have an annoying problem with our windscreen wipers. RARELY we can get them back to a nice finishing position, even though the finishing position has been adjusted by pulling them off, and putting them on in the right position. We were told the brass washer inside the mechanism is worn. Does anyone know where to get new ones, what they're called or what they look like? I'd love to have this fixed by the time the rains come!

Excuse the state of the mini, it needs some interior lovin'. ;) Thanks lots!

the Knob looks like it could be a bonnet release, but i'm not certain. What comes out the back of it, and can you pull it out, like a choke.

The choke is on the left of the steering wheel, so it's not that. :D It doesn't pull, it turns, and there are wires coming out the back. I'm also certain it's not a bonnet release, as that's all done from the front. (ie: you don't need to get into the car to get into the bonnet, guess that's why they put the battery inside the car! )

Other ideas? :P

The P knob is your dash panel brightness switch.

These are stabs in the dark but it could be a dimmer for a light, or possibly a varible speed control for wippers.

There are dash panel lights? :P Perhaps there is a globe out or something. We havn't driven at night yet! But when we've used the headlights, there isn't any dash panel light at all.

I didn't question it too much, it's a 76, perhaps they hadn't thought of that by then, since there aren't any reverse lights either!

Taking that apart will be fun, too! :)

As for parking the wipers, the arms have prob been removed at some time and fitted in an incorrect position, So simply remove both arms, Find the reverse point (TDC) on the wiper pivot and refit the arms. SIMPLE.

This is not turning on the dash lights [that is done at the headlights switch], but adjusting the brightness of them by rotating this knob in the direction of the arrow and back. At one end is full power to the globes at the other end of the sweep is no power to the globes.

Note: The lucus definition of full illumination is not sufficient to see any light at all on the dash during the day. wait until after dark [preferably on a night with no moon] turn on the headlights via the normal switch in the centre of the lower dash pad, and then twiddle this knob. You may be lucky and wind up the brightness in the dash from nothing to 1.5 candle power.
