CRANKCASE BREATHER KIT MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP MOUNTING

Crankcase Breather The A-Series engine has a reputation for leaking oil and/or smoking. One of the major causes of the various leaks is uncontrolled crankcase pressure. Remember that after the piston moves up in the block to create compression it also has to go back down in the block- this creates crankcase pressure. And if the piston rings are a little worn the ever present blowby can create considerable crankcase pressure. Mini Mania has developed an easy answer-an additional breather. This adapter block is designed to bolt onto the backside of any block that has a blanking plate where the mechanical fuel pump is sometimes located. The block provides baffled venting and has a pipe thread output to allow you to create your own catch/vent system. Machined from billet aluminum and very trick looking!
As well as the adapter block, the kit contains:
2 * CAM6657 gaskets
2 * HC0518 bolts
2 * WL2051 lockwashers
Available only from Mini Mania!

I'm sure it works, but isn't that a bit fancier than necessary?

I was thinking a hose fitting tapped into a bit of 6mm aluminium plate...

We simply brazed a side plate type breather catch can (with the catch can part cut off the side plate) onto the fuel pump blanking plate with some holes drilled into it. been doin it that way for years & years.
works a treat & doesn`t cost anything really except a bit of time & a couple of bits of 2nd hand mini parts :-)

No one sees down the back there anyways so Bling factor is only as good as chrome big end bearing nuts :-)

There are four pistons, as two pistons rise two pistons descend. Total effect on crankcase pressure is zip.

Just think what is located behind the plate and what it is doing. The cam has pressure fed bearings and is throwing a lot of oil around. If you add a breather where the oil is being thrown you are going to breathe a lot of oil. So you are going to need a good oil seperator to stop the PCV or oil catch tank from using all your oil.

I built one as suggested using a modified S breather can, and ran it to an S PCV valve on the inlet manifold.
At 4500 rpm and above, the crank and rods threw so much oil at it that I had to take it off. :x
So, I put one on the flywheel housing.
That works fine, except on the long LH `fish hook' at Wakefiweld Pk track.
So for track days only, I run a catch tank instead.

If well baffled, maybe MM one works OK- otherwise I doubt it.
