Not that I'm an expert, but those rings are the synchro - they're on all of the gears - without them, it would be a bugger of a job to move down your gears. I suppose it's possible by doing the old double de-clutch trick, but seeing as the gearbox is out at the moment, it would be better to get it fixed now.

It's not going to be cheap, maybe try to find a change-over somewhere or another minithats being wrecked or something. Check out the for sale section of this forum.

Good luck with it

Gearboxs are something I stay away from also but I do recognise one thats crook.

The photo is fairly low resolution but it certainly looks like there is wear on some of the other gears as well - WHICH - also means that the bearings, shafts, selectors and the like are also worn.

Just replacing synchro rings would be a waste of time and money, you would need a complete gearbox reco. The parts alone will be in the region of $500 and then labour on top of that. Probably about $1000 in total. The benefits are that you would have a good gearbox.

However - mini gearboxs are not as fragile as people would have you believe. Provide you don't dump the clutch, do burnouts etc even a worn gearbox will give good service. Therefore buying a good gearbox secondhand off a mini-ist is not such a bad idea. Most people who have around minis for a while can look and touch a box and tell you if its basically okay or not - ask on here.

Price ??? anywhere from a carton to reasonable money !!!
