How do you water proof the dizzy and electrics, so that rain and water don't effect the mini. |

Liberally spray the whole lot with WD40 including inside the cap, then snip the ends off the fingers of a washing up glove, stick the plug leads through and then stretch the wrist bit over the dizzy cap, finally put cable ties around each of the fingers. The Rover works mini's used them on the Monte Carlo rally back in the 80's/90's. Good enough for them, good enough for me

Give your mini a birthday each year and a new dizzy cap , points and condenser , little bit of copper grease inside the boots that go over the plug and coil leads but not on the connectors , put a splash guard on the grill , put a splash guard over your dizzy , carry a marine grade water dispersent (there are some really good ones that make wd and the likes look like water , talk to a chandlery) with you at all times . |

Don't spray WD40 all over the dizzy. It will collect grime and the grime gets wet and conducts electricity. 1) Keep it clean. you should be able to wipe you fingers on the plug leads, dizzy cap, etc. without getting dirty. 2) Keep it dry. Fit a splash shield in front of the dizzy. (I use a plastic ice cream tub) 3) Keep it new. As the plugs wear out the gaps widen and the plug leads deteriorate after time, as this happens it takes less moisture to short things out. 4) If it stops, squirt some WD40 on the dizzy cap and plug lead ends. |

For God's sake don't zip tie a pie to the front of the car. It will stink to high heavens when it starts rotting, they smell bad enough fresh... The best thing I found is ... Cut the side out of a 'Black' 4 ltr oil and make it like a tray with the brim about 1 inch high. use it as a shield in front of the Distributor area. to hold it on Just Zip tie it to the grill. I assure you it will not cause any smells ! And most important of all it works. |

I found a cut-to-shape ice cream lid (preferable spary black, if not already so) cable tied to the oil cooler worked. I got the idea from Craig Goss who runs the same setup (haha setup, it sounds high performance but it's just a crappy ice cream lid...lol  )

keeping everything stock has always worked for me.... never had a problem, even after driving through a creek with 6-8" water in it - dunno what I'm doing right |

My mokes the same , taken it swimming a few times in creek crossings (when the waters almost into the "cabin" over the sides  ) and it hasn't been a problem , just replace the cap occasionally and look after everything else .

A word of caution to anyone running the standard Cooper S air filter, when you cross a creek the water rushes up between the motor and firewall and straight into the air intake. Blub, blub, blub....

A bit of a thrash around the paddock and the track I can understand but who takes their cooper s through a creek crossing. Though I guess the storm drains have backed up with dirt by now and when it does rain the roads will resemble creeks. The sparky's at work use a lanotec based grease on all electrical connections and this works well, just paste some around the inside rim of the cap and under the lead boots or anywhere else you want to keep dry. I also use this as a lubricant in my wiper motor and it seems OK. Every so often take off the cap, wipe off the old stuff and reapply it, this helps keep the dirt out as well . It does not interfere with current though you dont want it on the points  .

If you are going to drive though a creek you might as well be comfortable.
