Post subject: | To relay or not to relay? |
Gday All, Would it be worth putting a relay in with my electric fuel pump on my clubby van? It is a cheap one that draws approxiametely 6 amps. I am wiring it from scratch but wasnt sure if it is necessary. I am going to put a switch in with it to act as a kill switch. I know that the GT like the other models didnt have a relay but is the increased current draw going to need a relay? Cheers in advance Matt |

6A is no problem without a relay, my 2 cars just have it fused separate. ![]() |

add a cutout switch to the ignition instead, or as well - with only a fuel pump switch, a thief can get the car started and drive away with the fuel that is in the carb bowl. When it runs out of fuel and he can't get it started again, he'll take out his aggression on the car - whereas if he couldn't get it started at all, he's more likely to get out and leave it just my $0.02 |

just my $0.02 I'd fit both.... will slow down the joyriders, but if someone really wants it, it'll get towed. ![]() |

Would it damage the carby's if you ran them dry everytime? I don't but I thought about it, my immobilset has a fuel pump cut out, so it doesn't work without the 'beeper'. I also have a fuel pump off switch on the dash, but that's just for working on the electrics. BUt back to my question. With the fuel pump deactivated, they could get going on the fuel left in the bowl, but what if ran it dry so the car won't start? As in running it with the fuel pump off till it dies? |

No problem for a electric fuel pump car. They just fill up again as soon as you turn it on. The carbies don't care either. The engine just dies, that is all. It doesn't run long enough to cause lean mixture damage. |
