Oooh! look a mini! let's drive stupidly, tailgate it and try overtake it in our Toyota Landcruiser on the freeway at 140km/h   :x :x :x

What is wrong with everybody? it seems there is a stupidity gene that gets triggered by the site of minis :? Is it just me??

Me?? i am going 90 on the overataking lane in a 90 zone, wizzing by sunday drivers and he wants to overtake me by tailgating me. So I move over, he then proceeds to overtake on the outside lane. Ticked off, I GIVE IT TO HER and he can't overtake...

I back off after awhile and he continues with a load of children and a wife in the passenger side at something like 140!

"Ohh mini!!! must overtake it at all costs, even if we are at the speed limit" :x

Generally people are threatened by minis driving at the speed limit......"Oh my God, I must be crawling along...look at that mini-its hoofing it.....better catch it and overtake it, then my manly ego will be intact and all road users will have respect for me....." or some crap like that.......
I'm printing a sticker up for the back of my min:
"How embarrasing? Being passed by a mini!"

Think theres an article relating to people and their fears of having a mini "threaten" them on the road......

I personaly like it when you are going up a steep hill on the freeway like the F3 and yu overtake some dude.. They generaly have a look who is passing them then do the double take when they relise is a mini.. They the put there boot in it to regain the bruised ego... I used to let them pass me back then ide blow their doors off to show them that minis still rule.. I love driveing minis

Yeah no one likes to be passed by a Humble brick. I get it all the time when I am out in my red Convertible MINNIE. I let them come parallell with me and then I accellerate away again just to piss them off. I generally do this to make them exceed the speed limit and hope there is a radar ahead to lead them to. Minie has quite some stick at 1408 cc and is fairly responsive not mentioning that it is Much lighter than a normal Mini it having no roof or doors. Let's keep showing them guys that Minis Rule.

People, people, people....doin stuff like this is just as bad as the morons who tailgate....do unto others as you would have them do unto you :| Try and keep those Minis safe and sound.

I don't understand why you need to prove anything to anybody - there are only 2 types of car owners in this world - mini owners and those that wish they were (I have been in both categories), so the mere fact you are driving a mini is enough to make most other drivers envious :D - they know what you've got, wish they had one, and are as jealous as hell.
Speeding up to prevent them from passing is only going to give mini drivers a bad name all over - I ride motorbikes too, and I know what the joe-average common perception is of bike riders - "you're a bikie, you go too fast, your an a'hole, move it or lose it". These days I just smile and nod and let them play their games. So maybe that will work better for you in your mini, and not enrage the bull bar behemoth driver behind you to run right over the top of you when you really p*ss him off. (Reminds me of Chevy Chase as Grizwald in that Holiday movie).
Take care out there - we don't want to hear of any mini drivers becoming a casualty of road rage.
Peter.

Listen to 9YATAH's wise words.

As for the original post, by flooring it in Lillee you demonstrated to the Landcruiser that you either;

1) Wanted to race

2) Were ticked off

Either way, the idiot was amused at your reaction and wanted some more. If you had moved over and let him overtake you would have spared yourself some grief. 8) I know you were originally overtaking minding your own business, but it is best to let idiots go on their way.

OK sir, next time it happens I will just move over and let him pass...

But I just wish they wouldn't tailgate you on the freeway when you are running the speed limit! never happens when I am in another car...

Happens to me all the time. Usually I just pull over and let them go.

*Except for the time that Speedy witnessed

The episode that BIAM is refering to was when we were heading in convoy (him in the XJS, me with 22.8hp atw) to MDU on the M4.

Two young idiots in a ute pull up next to me, being stupid and looking for a reaction (race). Backs up Lillee's theory theory about Mini's attracting idiots. I ignored them and they went on their way by flooring it, however despite their head start BIAM taught the fools a lesson about messing with british cars with his V12 jag.

Post subject:  Convoy Rules

One good thing I have done a few times is run interference for the Mini convoy....you should have someone at the front who knows how to look after the tail of Minis behind him and have a GPS for checking speed or a known good speedo/tacho.

At the end of tail, if you have support vehicle (s) well, their job is to ward off the tailgaters/Mini monsterers...especially after the whole convoy has to move past a slower vehicle and needs to form up again.

This way the convoy generally stays intact and monstering is kept to a mini-mum :D

That reminds me, I experienced the biggest loser-fly-by the other day.

I was on the bike at the front of the lights on a hill, it's two lanes, I'm in the right hand one. I ride that road every day.

Lights went green, I took off. Some clown turning left onto the same road doesn't really do a good job. Swerves into my lane a little. Corrects it, no big deal. I just give him a glance to check he is not being deliberately malicious. I should have realised that he was trying to go hard. It was a newish little Korean car, maybe even a sporty model. I cruise past, it's easy for me to get to the limit despite the hill, but he is trying to accelerate up the hill.

Only when the road levels out does he gain speed. i.e. the car is gutless. Next thing I know he flys past at what must be 140km/hr in a 70 zone. Knob. Not cool.

Still, it made me laugh. To have an ego that big, but drive such a gutless car.
