In recent months, some of the pulsar dizzy guys have moved back to points or other electronic ignition options. I'm interested in what the consensus is on the Pulsar Dizzy conversion.

I have 2 D4R85s running great in cars now, and a 3rd done for the 1412 strokerrrrrrr.
All 3 have had the advance plate modded to 10*. |

for those that don't know how to, or can't be bothered having there pulsar dissy modded, then DON'T use it. However if you do Mod them they will work just fine. Myself, I'll stick to points thanks very much

I've been pretty well wrapped with mine. No wet weather issues, fantastic cold weather starts and when driving long distances you have the confidence of a high power, efficient and reliable ignition. groovy. |

Is this a diy mod, or what sort of $'s would you pay to get it done? I'm guessing you need dwell angle meters and the likes. |

Myself, I'll stick to points thanks very much Cheers Aaron Have you done a stock one? I'm running a stock one. No problems, and yes it's better than a crap small bore 850 dizzy, although I reckon the Cooper S dizzy would be really good too, but they are expensive and hard to find. The D4R85 gave my car the top-end it needed. The old 850 dizzy was thrashed and was reaching amx advance tooearly, gave good low-end but no top end. people who saw my car at the dyno day could vouch for this. Now if I went back to the dyno it would be much better now! |

I put a d4r85-15 in my 1310 ,it then developed a flat spot at take off up to about 1400 revs(timing set at 5*), but once it cleared itself it run fine,revved hard, i put my points dizzy back in flat spot gone ,engine running fine i am going to look into the modification that the Doc has spoken about re:advance plate, I been meaning to get in contact with Graham Russell and talk to him about it to shed some light on it. |

I think I am going to Sydney next school holidays, so Russel Engineering is a must stop, I am gonna take a dizzy up there and get one done. Hopefully for the 'Ausmini Special Price'.
IMO opinion Pulsar dizzy= better than stock non-'s' dizzy. But modded Pulsar dizzy would probably be better than an 's' dizzy. According to a chart I got, the 'S' dizzy has more low end advance but the Pulsar dizzy is almost equal 3500 onwards and just a bit down on advance from 2000. That would explain the flat-spot. |

according to my books cooper S dizzy keeps advancing right to 7000 engine RPM... Not a good choice these days. Even for a Cooper S, as fuel is different. |
