This might be a silly question but can I change from 10 inch wheels to 12 inch wheels without any modification to my clubman? :?

Great :D . Does it affect the handling, acceleration, braking etc of the car?

They should be fine, just don't go for extremely wide wheels - stick to 12x5's for example. I have heard (never tried - I like the look of 10's way too much) that the ride isn't as nice because there isn't as much tyre wall to soak up the bump, so 10's are better in that respect.

Lower profile tyres are better for handling (the 12's will have lower profile tyres on them) because there is less tyre wall to distort when having cornering loads put on them.

you shouldnt notice much difference between 10's and 12's, and you wont require any modifications, just bolt on and go...

I would suggest a front end wheel alignment though as they are that little bit bigger (1"?circumference) so that does change it.
Mine understeer'd like a bitch but all is good now since wheel alignment.

Actually many 12's will foul the front guards if caster is set correctly, so the guards may need to be cut.

I run 12" wheels on my LS and the only modification I had to do was to hammer the lower corner of the guard out of the way after I put on new adjustable tie bars. Before that it was just bolt on wheels without any mods..
