Post subject:  need lotsa help

ok i start my clubbie, it kicks over a few times then stops,

i start my car full choke and it runs (but sometimes still dies after about 30 seconds)

or i start my car with full accelerator it goes untill i release pressure, but there are popping noises from exhaust, sounds like it could be misfiring...

but my question is how do i actually use a dwell tester or check timing... wat do i connect ithe instuments to?

thanks....

PS i wanna go on the minis in the gong run on sunday.... but i cant if i cant remedy this problem... so any help is greatly appreciated

Sure your fuel pump hasn't died (or is the tank empty or blocked)? Running full choke and then dying seems to ring a few familiar bells.
Electric or mechanical fuel pump?

Yeah probably mechanical.

Take the three screws that hold the float bowl off on your carby after giving a good go at starting it and see if there is very much petrol in there. Should be about half or more full.
Clean the crap out of the bowl and the top while you're there.

Fill to near the top and put top back on, then have a go at starting.

Did the problem start after you pulled the tank out?

Post subject:  Tanks

Rule Number One....for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction :!: Work backwards from what you last did.....fiddled with fuel :?: then check the entire fuel system :!: They don't like being stirred up in my experience

My old engineI had to run some choke until it warmed up considerably before I could turn the choke off.

Electronic dissy also helps as worn lucas ones don't do so well cold

did you let air into the fuel line when u cleaned it???

simple things cause big problems..

if that doesnt wk try sxc claes idea witha jerry and some fuel make a temp fuel line straight into the carby and get a fried to turn it over, an easy way to nockout some problems

cheers

Check for a kink in the fuel line from when you put the tank back in after the shockies change.
