Why do some catch tanks have a breather on the top and others don’t, Never really got it? Besides a 1ltr coke bottle, what do most people run on there mini's, one that vents to atmosphere or one that does not. How is the piping organised? (rocker cover, rear tapit case and flywheel housing, maybe crank case, straght into catch?) Assuming its for a NA engine. |

If your catch tank has no breather, it is useless. You will just build up crankcase pressure and blow seals and drip oilz. ![]() Vent hole area should at least equal cross sectional area of the hose(s) going to it. I run a 1/2" hose from the flywheel housing breather, and another from rocker cover. |

hey it has to be a 2 litre coke bottle according to the CAMS manual ![]() the catch can should be vented to atmosphere so you don't pressurise the crank case. if it has no holes in the top (must be the top ![]() cheers michael |

I have currently been running a cotties bottle (all vented to atmosphere), But thought I should make up something decent, looked on eBay, but its all junk, most don’t have vents and all have only 2 entrees. Must all oil exits enter the catch? Should any be plumed back into the engine via PCV valve etc? If so whats your sudgestions. This advice is for a Race car, if that makes the Diff. |

When I was using one for my old car, I used one of the old old school castrol 1 liter oil tins. They were steel with rolled edges and galvinised all over. They looked quite good with the fittings soldered on - very period. |

I run a PCV on the road, but for track days I bung the catch tank on. You can't run both, it won't work properly. Reason I remove the PCV for track use at Wakefield is it sucks oil from the primary gear area on long LH bends at high RPM. Makes like JB007.... ![]() Note it's a 1300 auto block, NOT an S... so no S tappet chest breather. |

So DOC, keep the pluming how i have it, (crank case breather and rocker cover) into catch tank that is vented to atmosphere (what size OB on the breather of the catch), mix this up with a non-vented cap and nothing on the manifold?. Now the question is two breathers substantial? |

2 breathers was fine on my 1310 at up to 8000 rpm, no oil came from dipstick or elsewhere. You could add another one to the timing cover, but there's not much room there in a roundnose. |

![]() A 2.0 litre plastic oil comtainer with vent holes drilled in the lid and handle. Into it goes a 1" diameter breather pipe from the rocker cover and a 1/2" breather pipe from the front side cover. Very simple and effective. |

Thanks for your help... Mine is setup similar to yours, except i have it vented from the crank case (flywheel housing) instead of the rear tappet cover. Just wanted something more easy on the eyes that my current setup and wanted to insure my setup is correct. Thanks again. |

Dont see a probelem with a coke bottle but I understand where you are comming from..You could always get pne of those from Flebay and modifey it so it work properly... I use a coke bottle at the moment which is plumed (sometime's when it does not come off) from the top of the rocker cover via a side hole and the lid is off./ you can make it as fance as you want but it only catch's oil that is blown back via these ports when something is not rite or in the extreams. I must say I will have a bling one not like the daily drive has |
