Post subject:  Gemini Starter Motor Wiring

Hi

Just installed a gemini starter motor and just want to know the wiring side.

I'm not replacing my power feed cable yet (will do later)

So you disconnect the white with red trace wire from the old solenoid to the gemini's starter solenoid (small screw)

Not sure about the power wire, there's two big studs on the starter motor one with wire going in the starter motor and one is free.

Do I connect the wire that was used to be connected from the old solenoid to the old starter motor to the new gemini starter solenoid?

and all the wires on the old solenoid can just stay as is?

Thanks in advance

NO, take the old starter lead off it and put on top of the battery lead.

Thanks in advance

I tried putting the starter power wire on top of the battery power cable on the old solenoid and tried starting the car and I'm only getting clicking solenoid noise

all lights are working

Touched the -ve cable from the battery and its kinda hot

got it running today

Thanks to David (64cooper) he spotted the loose -ve wire after removing the battery
Battery is currently low voltage after cranking it

found the most silliest thing as well... when I replace the starter motor, I removed the coil and somehow the HT lead is not put in properly thats why its just cranking
I was more concenrating on battery, fuel pump and starter motor and ignored the basics to check

ahhhhhh..

A cronic case of
not noticeing the bleeding obvious

its something that i suffer from frequently when working on the Mini :?

fortunatley the bleedin obvious things i miss that are staring me in the face are of the NON POISIONOUS variety 8)

when the frustration gives in to rage and throwing things around its only then i see the error of my ways.. whats even more frustrating is i will repeat the whole saga in 6 months time when i try to do something similar on the mini

good job i dont work with snakes for a living

I guessed I just panic thinking of the worst case scenario already where I should be starting from the free and simple things 1st
Its also lack of experience & knowledge that thinking that I'm getting 12v at the starter means I'm getting the proper power to start the car when its not now I learnt my lesson
