No need for a board file as you won't be doing panel repairs. But yes, you will definately need 240 discs. To get your primer nice and smooth. I finish off primed surface with 340 wet and dry as this will help show deformations in your foundation. Use lemon jif in a bucket of warm water as it will remove any impurities before you start with laquer.
Prepsol your shell before you try sanding the car, that way you will be sure that any silicon based polishes will not creep up on you and bite ur arse. Silicon=painters worst nightmare!!
Your gonna have fun doing this...

On my primer it says Mixing Ratio Primer:100 Thinner :100 is that just the same as 1 to 1.

Would you all recommend mixing it as i do in the paint gun pot or mix a big lot up?

After it's all painted get some 1500 and 2000 wet and dry and cut it till it's smooth. (if you get runs and orange peel which you probably will, I didn't get any runs when I painted mine, but tons of orange peel!) Then a cut and polish followed by a nice buff, should look a million dollars!

Before sanding to paint the top coats on my car we got an enamel p/pack of black and gave the body the lightest coat ever ie. spray from a metre away and dust it on only. This way when you sand with the fine stuff it will highlight any low spots by leaving the black. Also only used a hard sanding block (rubber I think) as this didn't allow us to sand out the low spots by accident. Found a couple of places to put 1 more coat of primer/filler. :D
Must admit we stopped at 800 grit.
Good luck

You can buy plastic containers from any good paint places. I got some 1ltr ones from memory. They have measurements and ratios printed on the sides - and lids.

These make life much easier and cleaner. Plus, I always give the paint a good stir before putting in the gun to make sure the thinners are mixed well.

When doing the roof, I found with a gravity fed gun, don't put too much paint in, as it can spill out the top cap / reg. Much easier to have the containers here for a quick top up! (I only mixed 1ltr at a time).

I'd say you need to buy more thinners too - 1:1 + plus primer + cleanup.

I didn't wear gloves, but I'd probs at least get some washing up ones etc, as long as the thinners doesn't eat them. Paint + thinners + skin doesn't mix well - also the extra getting into your blood.
