Post subject:  gearbox problems

juz jumped in the mini this morning for a lil drive and found that not only is my second gear crunching whne down gearing but now my third gear the engine shakes for a few seconds i thought it may be the clutch but it never did it before so its wierd for it to be an overnight thing.

any help?

Is it slipping as well as crunching? If so then I'd look at the seal.

as for the shaking well I'd be taking a look at your engine mounts and making sure they're properly secured.

well i noticed that if u give it a rev it will slide into gear without crunching and i also noticed that the nut that that connect the push rod to the clutch housing may be loose

Most likely clutch hydraulics need attention. Would explain why it happened overnight - air has got into the system.
Hope this helps

Bleed and adjust the clutch and see if it makes any difference , also look for fluid leaks around the master cylinder (and up under the dash where the clutch pedal joins the master cylinder) and the slave cylinder . How's your mechanical knowledge , can you do these things yourself or will you need to take it to a mechanic ?

Ok , well bleed the clutch (check the fluid level as well) and adjust it as per the manual and see how it's going then .

Well , if you're going to play with mini's you'd better go out and get one , or borrow one from work , they are simple cars but some things without the manual will leave you on the verge of a mental breakdown .

I would drive the car no matter what the problems, but make sure u remove all but 1 wheel nut from all four wheels b4 u go. Make sure that last wheel nut on each wheel is only done up finger tight.

That way even if there is other problems with the car, all the wheels will fall off at 100klm and then u wont have any more problems to deal with. Except for making sure u have a wil organised b4 u go on ur cruise.
