last sunday i took my 1100 clubman s down to a motorkhana, early in the day going round a constant left turn corse the engine seized. we managed to break it free and had it running smoothly again but a few hours after that at around 3500rmp it developed a very loud rattle. the rattle sounds like its coming from inside the engine. deffently not the head. anyone have anyidea what some common mini rattles are? bearing mayb? i just dont want 2 pull it apart and find out its not from inside the engine or somthing |

You would be exceptionally lucky to get away from a seized engine with anything less than a bearing or ring broken. Gotta central oil pickup? |

You really shouldn't be getting any oil starvation on left hand turns? The oil pickup is on the drivers side so you would have to have been pretty low on oil? or the pump was rooted or for some other reason you lost oil pressure.. |

Its generally the pistons that seize and seizing means the piston welds itself to the bore . When you freed it you probably broke it free with piston damge, gouges in the bore and certaibly one or more broken rings. Mini motors are tough and you can probably keep on driving it until it finally goes bang but it will eventually go bang. But yep - it is motor out time and make decisions - get this motor reconditioned or simply get another motor from somewhere. Its not unusual to get a reasonable serviceable motor sitting on a gearbox, clutch etc for $200 and simply drop it in. Reco'ing is not going to give a lot of change from a grand but should last a lot lot longer. |

finally got round to pulln her apart... big end bearingss on 3 n 4 were melted. oil holes no longer existed on conrods and top piston rings on 3 n 4 also broken... mite giv her a good bore and RE - 13 cam. that shood do the trick.... are those hypatec pistons good enough or shood i find somthing alittle better?
