Ok, just confirmed.

Road Safety Act 1986 states that if the car is to be driven on the road the bumpers MUST remain as they are part of the original safety design of the vehicle. If the car is intended for display or showroom use and will be stationary (i.e. not driven) they can be removed. The car is not registerable without them.

Even if you were to 'de-seam' the sharp edges it would still be un-roadworthy as original safety items have been removed.

When i said 'confirmed' i meant i had just got it from the horse's mouth (so to speak)... :wink:

Of course there are exceptions, but that's what the RSA states. The RSA is 1986 so if the vehicle is older than that... not sure. Call your local Police and ask (that's what i did).

Ah no worries, I think it may even differ from state to state. But thats probably the best advice, check with local police.

Has anyone debumpered a clubby and got pics to show me? I've got everything off my boy at the moment and both front and rear bumpers are in very interesting shapes... Just want some feedback/ideas on debumpering and what it looks like all done so I can decide if I want to get the bumpers fixed or replaced or just do away with them all together. Have read some posts but no pics to be found...

If ya gunna do it, u will need to be skilled in cutting/shutting/welding and painting.... Not worth the effort. Just buy new bumpers.

Its not if there are any sharp protruding edges of bodywork. Thats why the bumper lip/seam needs to be cut/shut....

Arrrrggggghhhhhh it's just a black hole of money Thanks - I wasn't hugely in favour of debumpering, but always like to keep my options open and always looking for different ideas - you never know... Thought if I could see one done and it wasn't too illegal/difficult to make legal then it might be an option (assuming I liked the look of it to start with). Ok then, can someone tell me about the bumpers - can they be repaired (bent back into shape) or do I just go get me some straight ones. What's the best/easiest option??

ooooh noice... very noice. I'm not up for the deseaming as a rule but the debumpering looks nice and clean. I need to run a few things by the RTA to get him registered (sigh one day hopefully) - sports exhaust etc which is quite low, so I will make some enquiries as to the regs in NSW. Will probably keep with the bumpers but it's always good to keep one's mind open. Thanks all for your help...
