Hi Just reading through previous posts and saw drmini in aust's post that you can use Ford EA one as its similar to the Pulsar N13 Just want to know the difference between these two alternators, I would've thought the EA ones must be bigger in size, I know the pulsar ones are 75amps and the EA ones are 85amps Would the Ford EA one fit the mini with the same modification as the pulsar unit? Thanks |

My advice... b4 u go stuffing around trying to fit another type of alternator... Just take urs it into an Auto Elec see if they can spin it up on the bench for you and see if its outputting... It should cost nothing and im sure most joints mite look at it while u wait... Otherwise u could go to all this trouble of friggin around makin another 1 fit, and find that u still have problems elsewhere..... |

The Pulsar and the Ford EA ones are both Bosch, very similar size. You will need to mess about with the pulley on the Pulsar so it lines up, just swap the spacer and the pulley around. Not sure with the Ford. A word of warning- alternator sheet metal V pulleys all get a hard time, check it for wear before fitting. It should be V shaped, not worn to a U. If it is you won't stop belt slip.

I'm asking this as I have a brand spanking new EA alternator so thought its a good time to swap alternators |

Beefa has a EA 85amp alternator on him and I havent had a problem. Hubby had to put a different adjusting bracket on and wire up the regulator connector. Just a caution tho, if you have a sound system you may need a noise suppressor put on the coil. For anyone curious, there is no such thing as a 6 cylinder alternator. |

The top curved one is handy, but you can make do with 2x standard Lucas ones- just bolt them together in a V, then when sure it's right, weld the 2 together. Don't just rely on a nut and bolt, it will move...

When the internal reg in the Lucas died a couple of years ago, I took the alternator to the wreckers and ferretted thru shelves and shelves of the buggers until I found one with similar mounts. The winner was a Mitsubishi Electric 60A from an earlier Laser/323. Mount-up involved shaving a bit off the water pump lug so the pulleys would line up, use of a few spacers here and there and an N13 Pulsar swing bracket from an old engine in the shed was perfect for the job! I ran a heavy gauge wire from the alternator output to the main battery cable to cope with the extra current and that was that!! I've had no issues and it works a treat. |

What size wire should I use for the power (B+) alternator to the solenoid? Bosch 85amps 4G or 8G sufficient enough thanks |
