Moke beats Cooper !! (not really)

Post subject:  Moke beats Cooper !! (not really)
I just did a Carpoint search for Leyland and was amazed at the prices of the Mokes that came up:

1) $11,000
2) $17,500 !!
3) $ 4,400
4) $12,000
5) $13,000
6) $11,450
7) $ 7,999

Those are some serious prices! It was only a few years ago that my Moke had an insured "market" value of about $2,500, even with the 1275 and discs.

In about another 10 years it may be worth what I've spent... Maybe I'll be able to swap it for a Cooper S, the values seem to be getting closer.

I know , I've been seeing some very scary prices for mokes lately but can't understand why . Not that I'm complaining , my 81 californian is sitting nice and cosy downstairs waiting it's turn ...

Must be lots of people who want "wind in the hair" motoring. Mokes give you wind in the hair alright, on your head, under your arms, in your jocks, basically all over. Lucky messy hair is fasionable..

Might be cheaper soon to get the real deal, a Willys WW2 Jeep. Better offroad too.8)

Cost to date including;

The car
All tools - so a welder, air compressor, guns, wire wheels, grinder and wheels
Fabrication stuff - steel, seat material and foam
Paint - etch, primer, top coat and enamel, thinners, tape and paper
Consumables - mig wire etc
Parts - Clutch, pads, new seals and gaskets, roll bar, hood bows, windscreen and surround
Tyres - 4 x Goodride 175/75/r13 x 4

$3,450.00*

There is another $150.00 to spend to get it rego
* Doesnt include medical bills or estimated $400,000 (based on my billable rate) labour

But it wasnt built for profit - so it wont get sold

There the asking prices, but are they sellingfor near those prices? Personally i think they are death traps.

You can ask any amount of money for a Moke but you still have to sell it.

I have been trying to sell mine for nearly 12 months now and when people ask the price I am wanting, they all say it's way to much money to spend on buying a Moke so they think they will buy an el cheapo and do it up themselves.. See if they can keep the price of doing one up properly, meaning motor, gearbox, etc for under under $10T.

Btw, some of those Mokes on Carpoint have been on there for quite a long time so it just shows the more expensive ones are not selling...

To think that only a dozen years ago, my grandfather couldn't sell his Moke (now my Moke) for $400 WITH REGO!!!

When some old blokes come back into minis, they tend to bring the same worth value to the cars as well, they take into account what they sold theirs for and maybe double it or triple it to todays values. So 10 or 12K obviously sounds expensive, but they are much harder to find now and are expensive to bring up to that condition. No point argueing about it with them, if they don't see the value in it, they're never going to come round to it in time for your sale either.

I sold a restored 64 Cooper for 6500 in 1997 (which was ok at the time), but had a guy ring me up and abuse me over the phone that he wasn't gonna pay me a cent more than 2500 cos that's all he figured they were worth. I asked him whay he was bothering me then and I bade him a good day.

its bs, they're making replacement bodyshells and the rest is just mini parts.

i dont understand why they're more expensive than minis
