i just brought my slef some 12inch mag wheels which i was told would fit my mini without any mods having to be done.so after shelling out $700 and waiting a week for them to turn up i went down to the local tyre shop and got them to fit some some tyres to the mags.after geting the wheels home i started to fit the 2 front tyres and they went on with no trouble and habe enough clearnce in the wheel arch but when it came to fit the rear tyres there isnt a hope in hell of them fiting.they need to be at least 1-2 inches smaller in diamter for them to fit.so after going back the local tyre shop i was tld that the tyre they put on the mags where the smallest tyre they could get and there isnt a smaller tyre made.i just wanted to know if there was a place that sells like a low profile 12inch tyre in order for these rims to fit my 72 clubman as i already have forked out a lot of money and cant afford to get smaller 10inch mags. any help would be great thanks.

What are the tyre profiles on the ones you got? If they're correct you may need to simply raise the height a little.

the tyres the local boys put on are 155/R12 i pretty sure thats whats on the outside wall of the tyre

I have 12 inch minilights on my 72 clubby and don't seem to have any problems, but I must admit that the back seems to sit higher than the front. I brought the car like this so I don't know if this was done intensionally or not, maybe one of the other guys on the forum might have some info for you.

oops I mean profile. It should read something like:

165/60/R12 or similar.

These wheels although 10mm wider fit a 12" wheeled mini fine. The second number(in this case 60) tells you the sidewall height as a percentage of the width (165). There should be very little diameter difference between the 12" wheel and a 10" wheel, virtually none to the eye. Did the original 10" wheels fit fine with the tyres on?

Never heard of 155's in a 12". They will either be 165/60R12 or 145/70R12.

Your Clubby is an early one and possibly a hydro one? Maybe the hydro needs pumping up?

Where exactly is it fowling?

Edit/ the overall height of 12" tyres are only a very small amount taller than standard 10" tyres.

I can get Dunlop DO1J's in 165/55/R12, so they are available, just not very many about. Think I've also seen others listed in this size in Miniworld/Mini Magazine

165/60/12 Falken tyres should fit no problem, iv fitted lots to customer cars and never had trouble. The out side diameter should be under 500mm, i think. They retail for $100ea and should be available from most good tyre out-lets. We'v even got them here on the little island!! Good luck.....

ok the tyre size is 155/80r12 ive called all round here and they all tell me the same crap that thats the onlky tyre i can get.i must admit that most of the tyres well the the whole 2 tyre shops in this town are pretty rude a##holes here.put here is a pic of the tyres they fitted for me and where its fowling.if anyone wants the tyres on the rims they can pm me as i have no need for them are are 100%brand new and never touched the road.

I think I know what your problem is.

They are fouling on the swing arm on the inside, right ?????
You have the wrong offset mag wheels for a skinny rear drum brake.

Now, all is not lost. Get a set of stepped Leyland S drums (and the wheel studs that come with them) or Cooper S drums and fit them. They will give you almost an inch of clearance and a wider track. You can get them off here, or off ebay or off a wrecker. Try Doogie.

Its probably that the wheel manufacturer assumed that all minis had the wider track drums and discs.

With the wider track you can also get the more common 165 x 12 tyres.

ok mate thanks for our help where would i get all the gear needed and how much will its cost me do u think? is it a hard job to change over the drums? i do have 2 other mini's sitting in the back yard is there a way can tell if they are the ones i need?

I don't think anyone uses 80 profile 12" tyres on mini's for the reason you have found , as BrickNut said , check the outside diameter of the tyre and if it's bigger than 500mm then it's not going to fit and you'll need to get lower profile tyres .
