As the title says,

Can we ID a mini shell with limited info?

Given a few descriptions of various parts of the shell, and only being able to supply the number stamped on the firewall and the number stamped on the radiator shroud, is it possible to get a reasonably close estimation of the year of manufacture and possibly the model of my roadster shell?

I am only assuming it is a Deluxe at this stage due to the round nose, front apron cut outs, and 'M2 05' stamped on the shroud. But I would like to be a bit more certain about it.

There is no known original engine number. I havent checked for channels in the floor yet, but will do tomorrow. *edit - see photos below*

What other info do we need to know?

Any telltale signs in any of these pics?

Its hydro so that should help narrow it down. prob 64-69?
did they go to the mk2 shell with the square lights in aussie? If ther did it would be 64- early 67.
Has it got the floor start?
Its an auto are you gona keep that engine? auto was introduced in 65.
ther r no holes for the interior lights on the door jams. I hav a 67 with those in.
hope this helps

Brik Nuts , our shells were the same from 1964 until the start of the clubmans in 1971 , we didn't go to the mark 2 shell like the Poms and you guys .

Nathan , Someone was doing a deluxe register on here a while ago similar to how I'm doing the 850 one , they should be able to give you an idea about it from the Body number . Mini mulisha had a thread going a while ago about mini K's as well so it might be worth a look too though I don't know if he had body numbers there or not .

<EDIT> Actually you've only just put the hydro on haven't you , PM me the number and I'll see if it fits with the 850's anyway though I don't think it will be ...

Shell is 67 or earlier, no floor channels for the pipes.
And I think RH park wipers (early scuttle holes?) from 1st pic too.

Yep,

Pre 67 Deluxe, no channels, hydro, front cut outs.......

Give me the number off the bulkhead or rad cowl and I can approximately date for you

I am looking for a shell like this!

But with a roof!!!!

People seem to be assuming too many things.. You gotta remember that:

The hydro subframes were put in by me.
The matic engine was put in by me.

So you cant judge anything by seeing those things in the car as they are NOT the original parts. It was a bare shell when I bought it - it had nothing other than panels.

There is no hole in the floor for a starter button.

As for the wiper holes, whats the difference between early and late ones?

Graham, PM coming. 8)

I can tell that's a hydro shell without the subframes in, look in the boot!

PM returned dating your Deluxe as approx May 1965 delivery.

Early wipers up to 67/68 are RH park, the 2 holes in scuttle are oval. Same as UK Mk1.
Later ones here including Clubby are all LH park, the holes in scuttle are in 2 recesses. Peculiar to Oz cars, not UK.

Inside the boot there are support brackets for the hydro bumpstops in the corners between the seat back and wheel arches. These are not present in dry cars!

More knowledge dispensed!!
