As far as I know it's the normal 13 row one , hence the diagonal brace to fit it in whereas the little (7??) row one would fit without and mods . |

The 66 Cooper S had a different type of oil cooler, it didn't mount on the body (no diagonal brace) it mounted on the engine. ![]() |

I thought that was on the english Cooper S only, did Australian Coopers also have the diagonal type? Parnell reckons that it was swapped in January 1966 for the front mounted type though (at least for the pommy types). |

I've only seen the diagonal cooler used on UK Cooper S, not the Oz ones? |

I may be wrong but if the poms changed them in Jan 66 you can bet that it took a few more months to reach our shores, maybe 3 to 6 months. ![]() |

The first 1394 Aussie Mk1 Cooper S from car number 501 to car number 1894 had the vertically mounted oil cooler , just below the generator, and steel connecting pipes were used . These cars used the normal vertical brace as well . From car number 1895 onwards the horizontal cooler was fitted to the front valance , as was the angled brace .......... |

AJ's info is spot on. Also note that the early vertical oil cooler is a nine row unit compared to the later horizontal 13 rows. My 65 has the vertical 9 row unit. |

Yep, I have a customer with a matching number cooper S, it has a engine mounted oil cooler, early '66. Sure it was aussie built, body number 1311, wind up windows (fitted STD), etc... Maybe they imported the engine with oil coolers. |
