How the **** (expletive deleted) do you fit a windscreen properly, two hours of cut fingers, screwdrivers, and oil didnt seem to do the trick. I had to drive the car to the station this morning, and its being held in by about 10cm of rubber on the top, (the other 3 sides are all ok though). Any help muchly appreciated, cause i'm not looking forward to revisiting it again tonight when I get home from work at 11pm |

tip1: get it really suddy, bucket of soapy water, so it slides in easily. tip2: dont use a screwdriver, it's easy to chip your glass that way, i used a plastic scraper thing - which worked wonders. i think there's a thread on here with everyones tips etc. have a search. |

It helps if you leave the rubber sit out in the sun for a while to soften up a bit too , they can be a bit tight from the packaging . |

thanks guys, I'll give a go tonight. One of my mates mentioned using string to help slide it in. Dont know if tha twill work. |

Okay - some tips from experience Firstly - with a soft faced mallet bang the rubber onto the metal flange all the way round. Stand back and look at it to check its sitting pretty well even all the way round. Then using a good strong string, put that in the groove all the way round. Use soapy water liberally and then slide the windscreen into a much of the rubber as you can without losing the ends of the stout string. carelly pull the string out while (if necessary) assisting the rubber flaps over the glass. One you have the rubber fitting over the glass you may need to slide the windscreen around a bit to get an even fit. Use the proper tool to fit the locking strip - beg borrow or buy one - they are twenty plus bucks and absolutely necessary although other claim success with a screw driver (shudder) Finally - do not (DO NOT) cut the windscreen rubber - it does fit with some soft faced mallet banging |

when i had mine i got it put in by obriens i fitted chrome locking strip myself without a speceial tool just used two screw drivers some soapy water and plenty of swear words cheers bob |

i got instant windscreens to put mine in.....they said they had some trouble with it as it was such a tight fit with the new rubber, took them bout an hour, they put chrome lockin strip in too..........they used windscreen cleaner to slide it in. a few lil marks on the rubber where you can see they got a lil fustrated with it, but otherwise lots of patience is required. |

yeah the obirens guy took about 20 minutes old one out new one in he also put some black stuff on that was like a glue or something cheers bob |

I got a bit stiff piano wire and bent it up into a diamond. Just a little wider than the fill in strip. I then grabbed the wire with a vice grip which made for a good strong handle. Putting rubber grease into the groove first is important. I was so chuffed with how it worked I took a couple of photos. Once made, it took me 10 minutes to put the strip in, same again for the back window.

i did this on my car a while ago, and thinking about it just fills me with dread i can barely even be bothered explaining. to put the glass into the rubber i used a screw driver with the end bent at a 60 degree angle, to seperate the rubber for window to slide in. it worked but so many times i nearly scratched it up. to put the locking strip in like mick did with the wire ( i couldnt get the wire twisted up well enough). someone else suggested using a 10mm ring spanner, i did that and it worked great! Having said all that, i couldnt be bothered doing it again. id pay someone to do it i reckon. |
