Herro.. it seems every couple of days, i'm under the bonnet adjusting the mixture.. (with the jet nut) is that a sign of something wrong with carbie or am i just compensating for a cold engine/warm engine? is it even possible for the mixture nut to vibrate loose? |

Unlikely the nut is working loose - the coil spring usually prevents this (assumimg it's still there!). Varying mixture could be due to several things - check dashpot for oil, float chamber for sticking float/needle, air leeks eg spindles or vacuum take-off if you have one (stuffed vaccuum advance diaghphram in dizzy?). You could also try using the choke for cold starts

hehe.. yeah i do... it's just once i adjust it... i dont' seem to need to... then eventually i will be using it again.. |

Also make sure your choke is returning all the way. This can really throw out the mixtures. |

Assuming that the spindle leaks (leeks is a welsh national vegetable) etc aren't too bad then the problem you are dealing with is usually the jet, which sits in the choke part of it. The jet is poorly centred and jams at various points during the rev range (height of the damper under return) and after the choke has been used. Read the manual for centering the jet and then have a good look at both the jet and the needle. If they are worn and scored then replaced them. Follow the procedure and centre the jets so that you have an even rise and fall of the damper as well as a smooth take up and release of the choke. It is not normal to be frequently adjusting an SU - they are pretty bullet proof once properly set up - someone else mentioned the coil spring under the adjusting nut - it must be there. |
