Post subject: | engine paint - again sorry.... |
I know this has been done to death, but I can't find the thread I'm looking for - I think I'm right in saying that the original green engine colour is called alpine green? Somewhere somebody said that White Knight make a pressure pack green that is a very close match - can anybody help me out here? Even if somebody has a PPG code or something that is a close match I would appreciate knowing. What green has everybody been using for those immaculate engines seen in the gallery? Thanks - sorry to raise the subject again, but I did try, honest....... ![]() Peter. ![]() |

Yeh thanks Doogie. I was going to just paint the head whem it comes back from work, but I've just about convinced myself to take the engine out totally and paint the whole shootin match to freshen things up, seeing as I'm rebushing the front end, new engine mounts, new gear remote bushes etc - there's only a couple of bolts left to undo to lift it out ![]() Typical ain't it - one thing leads to another and another and............... ![]() So while the engine is out I might as well paint the engine bay too to tidy that up.....and on it goes. aaaahhhhhh. If I don't do these jobs now I'll always wish I had, so get it over and done with I say. So, a couple of cans of the green, a couple of cans of jet red, a bit of silver for some bits, and a bit of black for others and she'll be like new. Then - what's next ![]() ![]() Peter. |

OK while I'm on the subject, and not wishing to start a war of "mines better than yours" or "you've done it wrong nah nah" ![]() My rocker cover is already chromed so I'll leave that. The radiator is being overhauled, so that will come back a nice fresh black. Thanks for your help guys. Peter ![]() |

The Alpine Green from Bunnings is good but don't overheat the engine as it then turns into a mess though that could be the least of your worries. |

I seem to think that the whole engine is green. It makes sense from a lazy BMC worker point of view, and also going off the immaculate resto "ReCooperation". Saying that, a silver sump looks good, especially when all the fins are present. Parnell shows the clutch covers as painted, can't see the casings though in any picture. |

Mick - any pics somewhere of that resto you mention? |

Yeah I have, but it's an old magazine. 1993. My first mini special magazine bought out by Fast Fours and Rotaries at the time. I'll see if I can scan the pages. Scanners on the bung but will work at it. |

I've got it here, It's a Mk2 they restored. I really should scan this whole mag, it's a gem. Anyone here in it? This IS the mag that got me into minis in a big way, not just for transport. I've scanned the pages of the article and here's the page of interest. A bit hard to see but they have also painted the sump. A sketchy reference, but I'm pretty sure if they painted the clutch cover, then they would have painted the gearbox as well. The links for the other pages are below to save bandwidth. I realise that posting this may or may not get a nose out of joint as it is from a magazine, so if it has to go then I am fine with that. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/Andre73/Page1.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/Andre73/Page2.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/Andre73/Page3.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/Andre73/Page4.jpg ![]() |

This was one of a series of articles condensed into this magazine and was the unattainable (for me) goal to strive for. **sighs** Makes me want to go out and polish the old girl a little, who can get past the wheel arch, I could never get mine that clean. |

Hi Guys, Has anyone got a theory as to why the colour was changed by BMC Aust. from the standard Pommie Mowog green? I am so used to this colour here that the Australian colour looks odd. Regards Al |
