Hi All, just wondering if i've got this right.. to remove and refit a new steering column id do the following: 1. Remove/loosen floor bolts that connect to the steering rack through the floor 2. unbolt the column (after removing indicator stalk steering wheel etc 3. position the new column in then tighten floor bolts? anything i missed or is this the complete wrong way!? hehe ![]() thanks all, - tom |

Its no quite right but close. The steering column is held on by a bracket that is held to the dash by two bolts - undo them. Then disconnect the electrical connectors - remove shroud, the indicators, steering wheel and other bits. Not that the little bolt on the column has a position with the wheels at full straight ahead - it is your indicator canceller. Then reach down and undo the single bolt that is on the column just above the floor. That bolt passes through a clamp and a groove on the spindle on the rack. With that bolt removed you should be able to simply withdraw the column upwards towards you. It may need a little effort and you may need to widen the clamp slight with a screw driver. So far no undoing the u-bolts on the floor that hold the rack in place. Now refitting is a reverse procedure except that the new column should fit on (once the splines line up) without any great force. DO NOT HAMMER IT ON. You may need to widen the clamp with a screw driver etc to make it easier and you may need to loose the rack bolts to rotate the rack slightly so that the column slides on easily. Once it on - reassemble - dont forget to retighten the rack bolts and make absolutely sure that the bolt that passes through the groove in the rack spindle is in fact through the groove and that the clamp portion is clamped tightly on the spindle and can allow movement which could lead to a sterring failure. |

Tom, When I pulled mine out I just undid the bolt that is at the very bottom of the steering column, undid the bracket that holds the steering column to the dash, disconnected all the wiring from the column (mine was just a big plug or series of) then pulled the column off. I didnt have to touch any of the floor bolts that connect to the steering rack. Hope this helps, Scott |

If I had known how useful touch typing would be in this computer age ( and for Pharmacy for that matter) I would have done typing in form 1 & 2 instead of sheet metal. But back then only the 'GIRLS' of both sexes did typing ![]() ![]() |

Remember that Judi Sowter learnt to touch type 30 words per minute after only eight hours at the typing institute. David, I did an IT degree externally through Charles Sturt and most of the assignments were electronically transmitted. That alone grossly (out of sheer need) improved the typing speed and accuracy. Then as I said chat rooms simply honed the process. Even now you can google for self teach typing programs and it only needs some discipline and 30 minutes a day and suddenly your pretty good. A lot faster than learning the piana. |
