Does anyone have info on what was originally modified on these engines? Was it cam and carb? or was there more done than this? I understand it to be a GT Police Special? Thanks ........

I don't know of a 1205 engine prefix myself , according to the details in the front of the old faithful mini car clinic catalogue the engine number of a clubman GT had the prefix 1200 . I do know that 1204 was the prefix for the export model moke released in 1972 but it was an 1100s style 1275 and I was under the impression that the clubman GT was a cooper s style 1275 . PM "GT" on here as he has a lot of info on clubman GT's and will most likely be able to help .

If you follow the GT threads in Ausmini the 1205 is listed. When I bought the car it was said it had an ex police engine also. Just trying to find out more info. I have only ever come across one other engine with a similar no. which actually sold on ebay a while back. Cheers.

Police Pack fitted to Mk2 S and Clubby GT primarily comprised a 731 (or Wade?) cam, twin HS4s and Ramflo filters.
Carb needles I think were CP4. Some people find #6 work better.

No, they were first used on the 9F/XE/Y Cooper S/ early GT engines. Then 1200.
I'm not familiar with that 1205 code either.

I don't have a 1205 in my lists but it was the next number after what I do have.
The system that Leyland was using at the time gave each engine in each model a different prefix. You could have identical engines in two different models with two differnt prefixes.
We know that the GT came with the 1200 prefix but would they have given a different prefix to the cop GT? Under the system they probably would have.

So we have....
1200 = Clubman GT. Twin carb, Close ratio, remote change, high comp, electric fuel pump.
1201 = ? (replacement engine) High comp, no gearbox.
1202 = ? (replacement engine) High comp, no gearbox.
1203 = ? Single carb, standard ratio, direct gearchange, high compression, pollution gear.
1204 = Moke (the first Californian)

I bought a dismantled GT in the early 90's that "claimed" to be ex-Police and 1205 engine number... however the block had been decked and no longer has a number...so only have previous paperwork (or did...) (Block still sitting in my garage). Sadly I deemed the shell too far gone and just a source for mechanical parts.

As far as I can see block is same as 1200.

It did come with twin HS4 and had headlight flasher indicator stalk (haven't seen these on other clubmans ??)

Ken.

9F/XE/Y = Early GT (7/71 - 10/71 and MK 2 Cooper S)
1200 = Mid GT (10/71 - about 6/72)
1206 = Late GT (7/72 - 1/73)

I thought 1205 was Moke ?

Police GT definitely had twin HS4's.

I know of 2 ex-police GT's in Sydney.

Just dug out an old "Mini Kingdom" catalogue ....

They list as 1275:

1200 YD023, Clubman "GT"
1204 Leyland Moke
1205 YDO23, Police Spec. SPO28
1206 YDO23, Clubman "GT"
1207 YDO23, Police Spec. SPO28
1208 YDO23, Clubman "GT" Short Engine
1209 Short Engine SPO28

No explanation of SPO28 ....

ps GT I scrapped was 9/71 model.

Hey thanks for looking in the catalogue. If anyone knows any info on what makes a "police special" I'd love to know. Cheers.

'Police Special' means it's been thrashed to within an inch of it's life, stone cold or overheating. Many police cars had to have various parts replaced and it was not uncommon to find conrods (or parts of) on Canturbury Rd (Sydney) during the late 60's/early 70's. :lol: :lol:

My GT is 5/1972 & it has engine number prefix of 1200.

Can anyone tell me what was different with this type of engine??.... & is a HS4 carby the term used for twin 1.1/4" SU's?? Mine still has the twin carbs but I haven't started flicking spanners on her yet.... I wanna collect some parts & info 1st of all.

Also a local Mini fan here in town tells me that this is only an 1100S type engine!!!! :?

HS2 = 1¼" SU
HS4 = 1½" SU
Twin 1¼" = twin HS2s
Twin 1½" = twin HS4s 8)

1100S motor does not have pressed steel side plates. :wink: (look under the manifolds)
Clubman GT motor has pressed steel side plates.

Are you sure they ALL did? for sure the 9F/XE/Y did, but I thought the 1200 etc motors had a 1275 non-S block...
