Post subject:  Front wheel bearing qstn

Put new bearings in the front for the clubby im doing atm, (drum brakes).

The RH side is fine, but on the LH side, i completely forgot to put the metal
ring (goes between the grease seal and the bearing) back in (found out this morning
when i saw it on the bench arg)

Will it be ok to just not put it back in, or do i need to take the front lh side off take
the e grease seal out and then put the ring in (please say i dont have to)

thanks
chris

It's gotta be there Chris. Should be dead easy to un-do that drive shaft bolt and just slide out the shaft, drift out VERY CAREFULLY either the inner or outer bearing and seal then put that ring in where it should be. Have fun.

There are 3 different rings on a drum hub-
1. The one between the 2 bearings (unless latest type bearings with integral spacer) MUST be in there. Or the bearings will chew out and then hub nut come loose.

2. The outer thick one with chamfer inside (goes up against the drive flange) MUST be in there. Or the seal won't seal.

3. The inner split one (between bearing and seal, on CV side) you could do without, as long as the seal is in the right place- ie not pushed in hard. Often these rings are missing on old cars.
