OK, so I finally got around to taking out my new non working speedo cable to determine why my speedo still isn't working.

In the process, I found out I originally had a speedo cable from an 850 (it's really short), but the new one is longer. I managed to get the cable out without moving anything as well.

I screwed the new cable into the speedo and stuck the other end in a cordless drill and got nothing registering on the speedo.

Do I need an entirely new speedo?

Is the end of the inner going into the drive at the back of the speedo? A speedo is nothing more than a rotating plate driven by the cable which is magnetised and a second plate driven by the magnet across an air gap. I have seen the odometer fail to work but usually the speedo needle still does. You were driving it in the correct direction?

Drills ususally turn in an anti-clockwise direction ... Speedos are clock wise.....
Try reversing the drill ........

Failing that CAll Bill at Olympic instruments at Pymble, NSW ....

Clockwise is usual for drilling and inserting screws.
I've known for speedos not to work until they get to a certain speed, like 40 or fifty. does the drill go quick enough to simulate that?

I tried the drill both ways.

I suppose its possible it wasn't spinning fast enough. Anyone know how fast it actually needs to spin?
