OK, so I finally got around to taking out my new non working speedo cable to determine why my speedo still isn't working. In the process, I found out I originally had a speedo cable from an 850 (it's really short), but the new one is longer. I managed to get the cable out without moving anything as well. I screwed the new cable into the speedo and stuck the other end in a cordless drill and got nothing registering on the speedo. Do I need an entirely new speedo? |

Is the end of the inner going into the drive at the back of the speedo? A speedo is nothing more than a rotating plate driven by the cable which is magnetised and a second plate driven by the magnet across an air gap. I have seen the odometer fail to work but usually the speedo needle still does. You were driving it in the correct direction? |

Drills ususally turn in an anti-clockwise direction ... Speedos are clock wise..... Try reversing the drill ........ Failing that CAll Bill at Olympic instruments at Pymble, NSW .... Cheers J |

Clockwise is usual for drilling and inserting screws. I've known for speedos not to work until they get to a certain speed, like 40 or fifty. does the drill go quick enough to simulate that? |

I tried the drill both ways. I suppose its possible it wasn't spinning fast enough. Anyone know how fast it actually needs to spin? |
