Hi, do you have to use a certain type of lead or can you buy ones off the shelf and just cut the end off to fit into the cap?

i juz went to my normal repco or peps store and gave them the old ones as samples to make some off but when they give a set make sure the ends that go to the dizzy cap are the bent type

Watch out for the diameter of them. A lot of modern silicone ones are a larger diameter and you have to shave them down to get them to jam up into the holes in the cap.

If you mean the type of cap where the leads slide into holes in the cap and then you screw the grub screw pins up into the leads from underneath to hold them in place and make the contact, then yes you do need special leads. They are thinner than most of the modern type and the best ones are wire cored, but the modern carbon impregnated silicon thread will work if you can find some thin enough to fit into the cap holes.

Try an auto electrician, they may still have copper cored leads the right size off the roll.
Karcraft has a side entry lead set listed, for $35.84 +GST.

A good spare parts store or a lawn mower place.

Auto spark suppliers can be found. These old copper cored leads are easy enough to get, though you will need the right adators on the ends for the plug terminations.

They're hell on car radios though for interference, unless you get inline suppression resistors as well.

It had them. NGK suppressed caps. The static and noise in the telly would go up and down with the engine revs. It was quite handy to piss off the neighbours on grand final day.
The cure was the Pulsar dizzy.
