Howdy - Pulled the engine out tonight to give it a clean, repaint, replace gaskets and seals etc and tidy the engine bay up (while I'm waiting for the head to come back) and noticed I have some sort of sender unit on the sump with unconnected wires coming from it. The unit is sort of in the right hand upper corner on the sump as you look at the front of the motor. Could this have been an oil temp sender? Is it standard? There's no extra gauge in the car. Sorry no pics, doing the work at a mate's place and didn't have the camera.
Peter :)

Its a switch whose contacts close when the reverse gear is selected in the gearbox. Occasionally it is used to illuminate the amber lights at the rear of the car. :P :P :P
