My engine currently has a 290 Scatter pattern cam, i'm just worried that it will not be a great road car the engine was orignaly designed to be a race engine. I've heard a bit about the SW5 from swift tune in the UK, anyone had any expirence with these? http://www.swiftune.co.uk/ |

I think you would find it a pig on the street, scatter or not... Depends what you want. SW5 is supposed to be nice and smooth but I doubt it's much good over 6000. 286 is as far as I would go unless it's for track, best street cam I've run is Russell Engineering's RE-13. It kicks in around 2500-2700, but is quite smooth below that. Mine will pull from 1500 with a 45 Dellorto (36mm chokes), and with 1.5 rockers on it, is still hauling ass at 8000... not that I do that much! |

Thats the one, wasn't sure if it was a brand name or just a business name. It's $130 I send him up a stock one. |

Make sure you check the cam timing with a degree wheel and dial gauge. A 1098 I did up recently, which had a duplex chain kit was 10* out in timing, due to a keyway cut wrongly. No fault of the cam- the stocker I took off it was retarded 10* too. ![]() It's fine now- I've put a 10* offset key in it. ![]() |

Depends what you want. I have not read any of David Vizard's books in years. does he get into anti-reversion extractors to make wild cams more road usable? He went right into it with a B series in Car & Car Conversions many years ago and reckoned it was a good thing. I must buy his book and read it I suppose. |
