Post subject:  Fitting doors
I fitted my drivers side door tonight. I folded a blanket over a few times and placed it over the sill, than sat the door on it. Not only did it protect the sill and door from chips, but it provided the right gap at the base for alignment.

I have a question though.......

My door skin was brand spankin new, and dead straight. Now the door is bolted on, there seems to be an inward dent under the top hinge. This has to be from tightening up the bolts....but why? I used the tapered washers etc...... :?

If the hinge is even slightly out of it's proper angle allignment, it will pull itself into the door when the bolts are tightened. Since the door panel is bigger, it has a tendancy to deflect easier.
Will the door straighten up with less pressure on the hinges?

Are you sure the hinges are in the right place? The 2 steep angle ones are tops, the shallow angle ones are bottoms. Bottom angles are opposite direction to top- ie. door slopes in there.

maybe the part of the hinge that bolts to the door has been mixed up? ie, lower one used in the top hinge? are you using gaskets?

yea got some spiffy rubber gaskets. The hinges are the ones that came off the door. The only difference is the door skin was replaced.

I don't think I want to fart ass around undoing and doing up the nuts / bolts, so I might just live with it. I thought there might have been a definite cause..... :?
