Hi

By the list in front of me the body would be about 10/67 but the engine about 9/67.

Are they a confirmed "set" :?:

I would imagine that they are close enough in age that they could be a pair.

Cheers
Steve

YKG2S2 is the correct code for a Mk1 Cooper S.

The only thing to do from there is follow the tips given in your other thread to ensure that it hasn't been "rebadged".

Cheers
Steve

First of all, do not call it a Compliance plate. It is not a Compliance plate, it is an Identification plate.
There is a big difference.

From what you have said it looks like a Cooper S plate. As long as the stamping is correct. On the engine number the prefix should look machine stamped like all the others but the number should be stamped by hand after the plate was fitted.
The YKG2S2 is right for a Cooper S
The car number is in the right range for a Cooper S (it should only ever be four digits on an S)
The colour is in the right timeframe for the car number. (Snow white started in 67 and the car number is from 67)

So the plate looks like Cooper S, but was the plate fitted at the factory?
Is there a number on the firewall near the ID plate?
Is there a number on the radiator shroud top panel?

Build date definitely 10/67 with those numbers. But as Morrie 1100 suggests, there's the other body numbers you need to check along with all the other stuff.

sorry about the compliance plate, i know its not, just its what my family gets the jist of.
the body number is stamped under the plate and it matches the one on the plate, i forgot to check the rad shroud :?
i think its prettty genuine as it has the breather tabs in the boot for the rh tank and all the other rh tank fiting gear, it has the front bit flattened for the oil cooler etc

also does a mk1 cooper s have 2 or 3 screw tail lights?

Both! They changed the tail lights in 1967 so an early Mk1 would have the imported 3 screw lights and the later Mk1 would have the locally made 2 screw lights.
