Post subject: | Making list of brake pipe/ tube lengths: Could use help! |
Now that I have my brake fittings and bundy tube, I want to make up a list of the brake line lengths so as to be able to make them off the car and bend them into position as required later. I have a couple of brake pipes I pulled off my old car, but most were damaged in the process. If anybody has any old pipes around and can tell me their straight length and where it fits on the car that would be of great help to me. ![]() Now my car is a dry type with discs on the front, but I've included other known lines to help others (whether you make them yourself or give the list to a brake joint). The list looks like: Front of mini (all & no booster) Master cylinder to Tee joint- Tee joint to brake pressure switch- 425mm Brake pressure switch to left brake hose- 1120mm (manual) (auto different??) The one on a front drum assembly- Rear of mini (dry) Brake cylinder to hose- 262mm Brake hose to pressure valve/ tee thing (left side/ long)- 630mm (well, 620-640) Brake hose to pressure valve/ tee thing (right side/ short)- 154mm Rear of mini (hydro) Brake cylinder to hose- Brake hose to pressure valve/ tee thing (left side/ long)- Brake hose to pressure valve/ tee thing (right side/ short)- Booster related Unknown to me. Others Front to rear subframe- Clutch- 310mm (off a hydro car if it makes a difference) I'll update the list when or if I get results, and when or if anyone can contribute. Thanks. ![]() ![]() ![]() The above image shows what I'm measuring. It's the extreme outside of the flares, with the nuts pulled back. |

Some more fiddling around outside today has made me realise that the flare style doesn't match the fitting. The flares on the rear generally seem to be concave except the ones on the brake cylinder andthe one that goes up to the front. The brake bias valve is a strange thing to me, having a bubble (convex) flare at the bottom of the thread. Is this normal? All the ones on the front that I know of (including clutch) are all bubble/ convex flares. Can anyone confirm? ![]() |

Harley this will be a fantastic resource for those doing restos. Count me in for help - I will be sending you measurement of van lines once I get to that job. Well done and I hope people get on board and help out. |

I might be wrong, but wouldn't vans (and mokes even) be the same as standard minis for the tube lengths? Well, except maybe the tube that goes from front to back. ![]() I'll update the list again tonight, as I found a few more brake lines, though they are in bits meaning I have to be sure of my measurements a bit more. ![]() |
