Is this correct?
A known genuine MkII Cooper S had this compliance plate fitted to it:

I thought a car like this should have had one of the larger square plates?

That is like mine, (dated 3/70) except numbers different.
I think the plates were made bigger a few years later so they could fit all the ADR numbers in.

Interesting...
Maybe it had a replacement plate fitted. :?
That style of plate is the same as the 76 Mini S plate that I have. I don't know when that plate was first fitted.

A lot of new Ford get new tags because they are stickers!

But weren't MkII S plates, right from compliance plate introduction, the larger size?
The plate I've pictured above is similar (in size at least) to those fitted to Clubmans and Mokes. . .

The early plates were big but all the later plates were smaller. I don't think that there would be any difference between the normal Mini and the Cooper S.
So if the doc has another small plate on a similar date car you could assume that they changed in 70.

My early 70 van has the big square one. Would assume they changed 1/2 way through the year. Would be good to see early Clubman ones, too. Anton aka GT, can you help with what a GT plate looks like?

He also has a 71 Clubman for sale so that plate may help as well.

Have seen a very early GT here in WA - and it had the 'normal' small Clubman compliance plate. Looks like they must have changed sometime around December '70. Our November '70 MkII S had (can only see the rivet holes) a larger square plate. . .

I have a 11/70 Mk 2 S with the big plate, also a 12/70 K that has the big plate too. Perhaps yours is a replacement?

Possibly - although there are only two rivet holes in the body where the plate is fitted (down behind the brake booster). It doesn't look as though one of the larger, 4-rivet plates has ever been fitted.

Notice that the word British is missing from the second one.

And why is the 1st one reverse stamped as usual, and not the 2nd?
Stamps wear out??
