Powdercoated petrol tanks look disgusting.

All the original ones I've owned have never looked glossy. I don't know if this is how they were originally or from wear/age (I'm about 10 years younger than most of them anyway) but I would say given that the boot's are generally still shiny it's more than likely they were satin like everything else (A pilar, Subframe, pedals etc?).

From WIkipedia:

Quote:
Scientifically black is not a hue (color); a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them, this is sometimes confused with black being called 'a mixture of all colors' but that is not the case. Sometimes black is described as an "achromatic color"; in practice black can be considered a color, e.g., the black cat or black paint.

You win this round GT.
:D :D

Also found this:

Quote:
In physics, a black body is a perfect absorber of light, but by a rule derived by Einstein it is also, when heated, the best emitter. Thus, the best radiative cooling can be achieved using black paint, though it is important that it be a nearly perfect absorber in the infrared as well.

That has nothing to do with petrol tanks, but rather a recent topic on engine colour.
:D

Gloss looks better though. 8) Well semi-gloss at least.

It's a choice between originality or looks.

I don't think it looks too bad when the tank is painted to match the body colour.
So long as it's still a good colour. :D

That'd look alright since the black rubber would seperate it. Look pretty good actaully. If I had the money I would chrome both my tanks. Now that would be sexy, but expensive...
