Post subject:  Fuel Vapours
Since ive had the right hand fuel tank installed on our mini K, by a so called nth side mini specialist who now offeres no assistance with out additional payment, ive had fuel vapures within the cabin & boot area to the extent u would nt lite a match within 10 ft of the car.
Ive checked the fuel hose conections and breather hoses, all seams ok. any advise would be apprciated.

Hmmmm, funny that, the same company that mine was done by, i did not choose them, the PO did.

I know you said you checked the breathers but that was the problem on mine. first of all, one of the breathers was loose where it connects to the tank as it was the wrong size hose, and the other breather did not exit the car.

Make sure both the breathers completely exit the car otherwise they just let fumes into the boot.

As a further safe gaurd i put rubber grommets in all the holes between the boot and the cabin.

Another cause of the problem could be a leak further forward in the system and not related to the tank at all.

Or you could be getting exaust fumes from a leaky exaust.

Another contribution to this smell i found was filling the tank all the way to the top and as you go round corners a small amount of fuel comes out the filler and you can smell it, i know i do.

Wot he said....start by checking the clamps on the balance pipe in the boot, thoroughly and the tube itself for splits. Then look at whats going on underneath the back of the car just to make sure.

Check how well the fuel caps are sealing....if your boot seal is a dud you could be sucking in fumes from the outside (do you have fuel stains below either cap :?:)

Hope the tank itself doesn't have a split or pinholes :oops: ....that could be another cause...either way....do not muck around with this problem, get it fixed quick smart :idea:

I demanded the tank be presure tested, as the vapure was mainly present after filling & they concuded there was a leak at the join of the filling pipe and tank, and claim to have resolve it. This corected the puddles of fuel in the spare wheel area, but the vapour still exists after 7 mths indicating an additional issue......... being smoker im concerned. The beather pipes are similar to a clear fish tank type dia and all hose pipes are secure.

Watch out adding a RH tank, the 2 breathers have to cross over under the parcel tray like an S does, otherwise if parked on a lean the fuel can overflow the lower tank and spill. :cry:

Oh, that's why it does it.....mmm..lucky that only took 15 years to find out. I guess I'll add that to the list of things to do this weekend. Must be why they have those extra tags.
