Post subject:  New gaskets. What do I do?

The following on my engine are going to be replaced:
Water pump, oil filter housing, thermostat, and some random breathers.

How do I prep the areas that will get a new gasket?
Clean up and assemble dry?
Loctite flange sealant on the part surfaces?

Please help me out here before I have a crack on my own this weekend!

Thanks.

Just clean and smooth. Gasket sealant is great, but a good surface prep means you shouldn't really need it, but why take chances?

I like to scratch it back to remove the old gasket, sealant and anything else. And then use qa bit of wet and dry sand paper to smooth it up. A touch of gasket sealant like permatex finishes the job.

Careful not to use a gasket sealant that dries hard as it gets inside the gallery and then can block oil galleries or whatever. Also don't use too much sealant, just enough for the paper to get a coverage.
