Post subject:  how fast can you get a mini
i went to the phillip island classic car racing and the mini's where flying down the main straight. i know one of the racers, that races a cooper s with a 1300 which he says has 100whp and does about 150mph. i'm want to know what top speeds are possible in a 1360.

i suppose it all depends on the diff ratio u run. :P :P
i have a 2.76 and on the dyno last week it was doing 170kph at 5380rpm. the sound was awesome cant wait to do some more mods and have another go.

we've discussed this before somewhere, the fact is that minis are aerodynamically inefficient, then you have the 4 speed gearbox and tiny engine all factors against top speed..

for your curiosity
i had my old knackered undercarbed 1310 with fat 13" wheels up to 150kph

on the dyno you're not working pushing the car through the air, so i would expect the reading to be innacurate.. but still impressive :wink:

The problem is horsepower vs. drag. No matter what diff ratio you run you will not overcome the drag of a Mini. Actually the taller ratio you use the less leverage you have to overcome the drag.

150MPH out of a Mini is about as likely as me winning lotto. :roll:

I know that there will be a lot of people making claims about top speed but anything over 125mph is unlikely. Remember that Smiths speedos are not an accurate measuring tool. :wink:

Your car was not doing 170kph, your car was sitting still. :roll:

I remember being at the last Bathurst easter Meeting in 1973 (1974?) where there was two days of practice and races. A mini sports sedan driver by the name of Lyn Brown (name ???) is credited with being Australia's fastest mini driver with a speed of 124 mph down conrod straight.

Although since then much development has happened with mini performaance I think think record may still stand as modern racers are more concerned with torque and acceleration rather than all out speed.

Regardless - you have to be able to pull it up once you get to the top speed and if you dont have have the right brakes then please dont get it to the top speed.

I personally have had a Clubby s with a hot motor back nearly on the zero pin. that was as fast as I want to go and that was down a highway. But I would not have said that that was at all accurate. a smith's is not accurate, a dyno is not an accurate representation of potential. Gearing is important and so is power as is temperature. Air temperature has a negative viscosity co-efficent so the colder the air the greater the viscosity, and lower drag. and are we talking a totally linear power curve or a partially flatspotted motor? I would estimate anywhere between 150-220KM/H that's down a hill with a tailwind but it would take a while getting there. Your really asking how longs a piece of string

Minicranks might be able to correct me if he's about but I understand the supers here are now pulling around 210-215kph on the new Taupo straight.

50-60 kph in residential areas depending (except for school zones within hours), or 100kph on open roads; 110kph on some freeways/motorways.

wasnt there a suzuki hayabusa'd engined mini that did 320kmh in mini world recently?
