Post subject:  Info on the mini deluxe

trying to bring a mini deluxe bank to its 100% factory specs. Does anyone have any examples of a perfect deluxe, with no Mods.

What wing mirrors were standard, factory tyres, how did the engine bay look etc.

Any help would be fantastic.

No wing mirrors were fitted to a deluxe as standard. My first car was a one owner before me 68 deluxe and I had to fit them.

Forget the factory tyres...buy some decent ones :!:

Even the Dunlop SP-41s fitted to Coopers were only average at best.

No they definitely did not have any extarnal mirrors from the factory. You only needed an external mirror from 1969 or maybe 1970. But I bet they were offered as dealer fit options.

I fitted them because I was learning to drive in that car and it was difficult for me to learn to use mirrors if they were not there. :)

There was no legal requirement for me to fit them.

Totally agree Brett, although I would like to have a dollar for every bullet mirror sold for a Mini in the period :!:....nothing like a racing accessory to make your car look and go faster

Isn't it funny how we laugh at the ricer boys with their aero stuff , while in their day bullet mirrors , mags and spotlights on mini's were the same thing ... Only difference was that the mini's were fast anyway .

Issue 2 of The Mini Experience and our 2005 Essential Mini calendar feature a 1967 De Luxe. Apart from carpet replacing the original rubber floor mats, the interior is completely original. The car has been owned by the same person since 1970 and had a no-expense-spared resto done a few years ago by Mini Car Clinic, to original spec. Dealer-fitted or after-market extras included driver's door mirror, radio and aerial, and front wheel mud spats.

There were numerous changes from the first De Luxe of 1965 to later versions, particularly with seat and interior trim patterns. Trim was the same as the Cooper S and changed at the same time. Issue 1 of TME illustrates interior of early Cooper S - seats are the same as the early De Luxe.

Basically, improvements over the Morris 850 included the Cooper grille, 998cc engine with single HS2 carb, twin-laeding-shoe brakes at front (single-leading-shoe still at rear), key start, improved interior trim.

PM me your email address and I will email you a few pics.

Cheers,
Watto.

There is a good pic on p4 of `Mini Minor Downunder', supposedly of a Mini Deluxe engine bay, but it's NOT- it is a MiniMatic, with the 1.5" SU etc.
