hey all, the metro brake conversion saga continues. Has anyone got or does anyone know where I can pick up a 10mm carbide drill bit. I have to open the holes on my steering arms and calipers a bit? I have tryed the usual suspects but I cant find any. Cheers very much |

You don't need a carbide bit to drill cast iron, it is softer than mild steel. A HSS drill will be fine. ![]() Yes, the caliper and swivel hub are both cast iron. |

drilling cast iron is the same as stainless steel. cast iron is normally drilled with h.s.s with some cutting oil. if the drill bit is not sharpened correctly and it rubs on the metal the heat will harden the surface and make it almost impossable to drill. you can use a tungsten carbide drill used for masonary or concrete. you should be able to buy these at any hard-ware shop. the only problem is that the cutting bit is bigger than shank and may cut oversized hole.these drill bits are not normally used for accurate drilled holes. |
