Hey all, I saw angel eyes on a mini website a few dayz ago but i cant remember what the site is (and it wasnt on my pc!!  ). i would love to see some more pics of minis with angel eyes as it is meerly impossible searchin on google!
also Are angel eyes legal in Australia??? i kno the different colours deffinently arent, but just the clear ones??? And where can i get them!!? i love them! cheers >Rude< |

Angel Eye's are not legal, and they are of dubious quality. ie. absolute shithouse materials used. I had a couple at one stage and they feel like crap, the backing is plastic, they are light, the beam isn't crash hot and the diffuser in the glass doesn't make a nice spread. They are usually made in china or even some other cheaper equivalent as well. I melted a hole straight through the top of mine 
Went to H4 Hella's and never looked back, they are actually made out of GLASS not plastic and the quality and light emmitted is 10x better than anything that came out of the angel eye's. Those ones on ebay are way overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for angel eyes - Genuine LEGAL Hellas etc are around $165pr and that is at the top end of the price range for H4's. |

I can't speak for Angel Eyes on a Mini, but they're definitely not illegal per se. My BMW has factory Xenon lights and they have integral angel eyes as parkers. |

yes they should be legal in all states and They are not made of the best quality materials, I bought mine off flea bay for about $90 delivered. The Hella's are amazing in quality. Their's no way of doing something well on the cheap, you have always got what you paid for. The coloured park lights around the angel eyes are definatley illegal and not safe as it is really easy to confuse them with other vehicles. I was riding toward a commodore at dusk the other day into the setting sun. This commodore had red sidelights in the main beams. I thought he was going my way until I realized they were headlights. really just tempting fate more than the authorities. |

I'm no expert, but I can't see why they'd be illegal at all.. that's basically the Mini interpretation of the parking lights on my 325i. As long as they're white, they should be fine. |

I cant seem to understand how it would not be legal?? with the normal headlights on, the "halo" part of the light wouldnt be noticealbe now would it?? or not very noticealbe, i cant seem to find a pic with the headlight on too but im sure it wouldnt be too easy to see......correct me if im wrong as im jus guessin. cheers >Rude< |

They are obviously factory fitment and BMW were the ones who started off the whole 'halo' angel eye' fad - BMW have tested them and they meet all safety requirements. These other aftermarket angel eyes have been brought to the market as cheaply as possible to cash in on a trend. They havn't gone through expensive testing to meet relevant Australian Design Rules and therefore if you get pulled over a cop can defect you on the spot. It's not just the ring, it's the way the light is emitted. A lot of them are generic and sold all over the world, there needs to be a LH and RH beam which has a spread different for LHD and RHD vehicles and a whole heap of other criteria which are not usually met. |

i was looking to more or less this one 
its the same one as that one selling by brickworx on ebay and its half the price of it!!! i think they are asking a lil too much for theirs. looks pretty legit, i cant see how you could pick the difference between this one and a "MOT legal" one?? |

MOT is a UK thing - Ministry of Transport test, doesn't apply to Aus standards. The lens will have ADR aproved and the relevant standards written on the glass, police will know to check for this. 90% chance nothing will happen, but your original question was if they were legal, and we have told you they are not. |

josh has a point, even though they might pass ADR they might not have been yet, unless they have it stamped on them. it's the same with most LED replacment bulbs for your car the cheap ones aren't ADR approved. Even though you might pass rego, you can get stung at insurance time. as if someone runs into you and claims they didn't see your lights, insurance company checks for ADR lights and bulbs. if they aren't there they won't pay. So be carefull and aware, rego doesn't mean roadworthy, rego doesn't mean insurance. This is your responsibility to fit proper accessories. The main reason why these company's don't do ADR testing is because it's expensive and a lot of effort, and they might have to make a change. It's all expence... and comes down to what you pay for |
