Bit of a stupid question.. but since a full roll cage would be hard to get engineered, what would be the legalities of having a fake roll cage in a mini? ie just for looks. Like if you made it out of some thin metal tubing, or even plastic pvc tubes or something?

Does this still count as a 'roll cage' and therefore must be engineered.. or can this just be seen as some stupid ricer with pvc piping in his car?

Sorry , but ricer springs to mind quickly . You can have a rear half cage without any troubles , it's only when you do the full cage that things become difficult .

Thanks guys, but doesn't really help at all. I know half roll cages can be engineered, but I'm asking about full roll cages. Yes I know it's rice I'll happily admit that. I just want to know if I can get away with it?

No.

Cops won't enter into a debate on the technicalities of roll cages when they stop you by the roadside - you will get a defect, and no inspector will sign off on anything like that.

The main reason you can't have a full roll cage in most cars without having it engineered, is mainly due to the cage impeading on getting in out of the car.
So being that a full metal cage would impead you getting in, so will a PVC pipe cage.
IF you only wanted it for displays you could have your rear cage in perminantly and then "bolt" in your front supports when car is being displayed.

You would probably need to do this anyway as PVC pipes will more then likley break as you climb over it to get in the car.

now now kiddies, dont get nasty. Just because someone wants to put a fake cage in their car..........
no, really.........bugger it, Get Nasty!!!

I guess it is not such a bad idea if your only pretend racing and only pretend to roll your car.
You'll need to add windsreen wipers on the inside too to clear all that spit away from the pretend engine noises.
