| Post subject: | Metro vented versus 8.4" disks |
OK, bling and bs aside, does anyone have a direct performance comparison of a non-servo'd metro vented brake set-up, versus the 8.4" mini set-up (still no servo)? I know both will lock your wheels, but anyone ever induced fade in the 8.4's? Pedal feel? Any and all information welcome, as I'm considering going from vented back to 8.4 and wondering if I'll regret it..... |

Can't compare non-boosted - but my wife and I have two Rover SPi's - one with vented and Green Stuff pads, the other with standard 8.4's and pads - and in daily driving the std 8.4's with their soft pads have a better feel and stop easier with less pressure. I'm not saying that the std 8.4's are better, just that pads also make a difference. |

Pads will defiantly give a different feel. I put EBC's standard pads, they black ones (still kevlar). They are much better for a daily driver compared to green stuffs which where in another 1275 LS I have driven. The pads that were in them before I changed (unsure the brand) faded very badly, but these ones are a HEAP better. The EBC blacks are great, I highly recomend them for a daily. If your car is just a weekend warrior, then go the green stuffs. |

ok my mate angus and i have the same setup in our cars eg. a+ 1275's, wheels etc. but he has vented 4 pots and i have solid 2 pots, we do quite a bit of downhilling and seriously he has much less fade, but i have really good pads and he has standard pads. both setups are non servo as we both preffer the feel. his pedal travel is much longer then mine, i've heard from other places this is quite commen with 4 pot brakes, whereas mine feels great. both can stop on a dime. for everyday driving i'd go solids, but if you do quite a bit of racing, or downhilling get vented. it takes a fair bit to get solids to a point where they dont do anything, but it takes heaps longer to get vented disks to that point |

Sorry I should have said please assume equal pads (ie I'm running green stuffs on the vented set-up now and think they're great so will use them on the others if I change). The reason I'm thinking about it is to run the big offset 10's from the UK. The car does/will go on track a couple times a year - I'm thinking/hoping maybe some ducting could take care of any potential fade? The race boys are all on solid disks but I know they're using race pads..... |

im running vented with green stuffs..and have had no problems to date apart from the now and again lock up in the wet and the sometimes problems i get becasue the wheels stick out a lot more with these brakes, the car has only been set up correctly once and drove fine..and a week after that it was destroyed in my nasty accident..never had any brake fail and only got them glowing redy orange once..and that was chasing my mates vw golf vr6 down from mount buffalo look out.and even then i had no fail ..well worth the drive if anyone is up that way...great drive up and a fun drive down |
