what is the best wat to do this? i know people just lever them off with a screwdriver but has anyone come up with a really good way of getting them off that eliminates the risk of damaging the endges?

The best way is to gentlt cut thru the braze top & bottom with a angle grinder, then gently pry them off with a screw driver, if you happen to damage one, you can buy new ones for about $12 each.

thanks. how well do new ones fit. i may just end up getting new ones anyway. mine have holes drilled in them cause the car once had a mesh visor.

What sort of car is it ????? The police minis both pursuit an otherwise had mesh sun visors and because of that the mesh sun visor very quickly because undesirable to all but police cars.

On an S its one of the signs of a pursuit mini.

Back to your question - the strips have little metal clips (about five to a strip) help hold them in place plus they were brazed top and bottom. Modern inustrial glues should work just as well now.
