About to start rebuilding the engine this week. I have a block in the shed which is 1100, block is stuffed but it sounded like it hada worked cam when it was running. Whats the easiest way to see if it is modified or not, and what type it is? I will pull it out tomorrow as the block is in pieces! Looking at putting this cam into my 998 if it is modified at all, and in good nick. The 1100 was rebuilt two years before I blew it up at 140km on the way to victoria!(Cracked piston) Steve |

Get a dial gauge and a degree wheel is the proper way. You can then plot the opening and closing points, and the valve lift.. If you pull it out, have a look on both ends- sometimes cam grinders stamp their cam number on there. Also, get a vernier or micrometer and measure a lobe top/bottom and left/right, take one measurement from the other and that is cam lift. PM me and I'll tell you if stock or not. Even a stocko 1098 cam is a bit better than a 998 one- has more lift and exhaust duration.
