ok so i was bout to reverse into a car park today and there was a 20cm concrete speed bump(or raise in the road) (part of the floor not a purpose put speed bump as it ran the same direction as the road (across my carpark)) and i hit my exhaust (catalyctic converter or one of the mufflers) and snapped the exhaust pipe into 2 peices.. right at the ass end of the first muffler from the catalyctic converter.. went to get it welded and theres a 1inch gap ... as ive slightly bent it... im thinking to install a RC40/Lukey + 3-1 Extractors.. on monday.. but what would people suggest its for a 1988 Rover Manual 998 carby engine... ..so MOD EDIT pissed tho..

your car must be low if it sits only 2cm of the ground?

Just be careful though - I dont know about rover minis but to they have map sensors, crank sensors and the like. In other words computer controlled. You may find that if you change the gas flow characteristics the car will run far too lean and too roughly.

I also think you could run into legal problems if you remove the catalytic converter.

Just check first before you spend money

techincally it would be illegal if i was to remove the catalyctic converter.. but as long as it isnt loud it wont get checked.. and as far as th sensors go ill ask steve i know i dont have a cam sensor (MPI only) but i did have a sensor in there...

if its a 998 its carby with no sensors. No 998s ever had efi.

You've bought decent car to avoid the defect problems you've had before, don't commit the same mistake by removing the catalytic converter. Leave it there, and if you are going to replace the muffler, make sure you put one in that;

A) Is quiet enough that you won't go deaf

B) When you look down the muffler, you can see straight through it.

I'm guessing that it's the same in SA as Vic. but over here if you ask an exhaust centre to replace the whole system they have to by law replace the Cat.. The way around it and save $$$ is to only replace from the Cat back or forward (then go back next week to replace the other half).

Not sure about the carb models but if an injected model came with factory air it may have a temperature sensor near the back of the car (about under the rear seat). An exhaust centre should be able to drill the pipe and weld a nut on it so that it can be refitted. It won't have an oxygen sensor near the manifold though.

i dont know what sensor it is.. but theres some wire going into it...i would leave the cat but if i put a new one on there ill be going 1.75" im thinking 3-1 extractors and some sort of muffler (RC40 or lukey)

how about willy's old exhaust....
Maniflow extractors, 2 " pipe, lukey muffler
and put a cat in... will quieten it down

Catalytic converter or another resonator a must really... was a very loud exhaust but it was a sweet sound

Looked very cool with the tips hanging out past the bumper I think.

yeah im not fussed for loudness im just trying to get soemthing back on there... and the ones thats there is a bit rusty.. hence why it broke so easily...or so i imagine.. ill shove some sort of cat/resonator in there.. dont have any idea on the cost of them tho...

Have you complained to the carpark's owners about the haxard to low vehicles in their carpark ? They may contribute to the repair costs if you approach them properly with all the details (your car is legal height and has just been complied so fully legal , with photo's of the concrete hump etc all in writing) . If you just walk in arguing you'll get sweet F.A. but if you set it all out clearly with all the details in writing they should help .
