Post subject:  Licence

I got my licence back and was upgraded to greens straight away. WOOHOO!

Took her out yesterday for her first proper cruise for the last 9 months and shes handled quite well, despite my temperature gauge wire snapping off the spade, so a bit of bushman mechanics my mate and I striped the wire back a bit fed it through the hole and jammed the spade bit over the top and hey presto it worked. Other then that small and relatively harmless fault she loved being driven and seemed to also love the new oil I put in her too.

We headed out to nth Sydney for lunch then headed up to Palm Beach and stopped for a ice cream (as you do) and then drove home late afternoon. Got caught in a bit of traffic but wasn't effecting my temperature much at all sat at the middle or slightly above. All in all a great trip and its so bloody good to be behind the wheel again :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Congratulations
I know it has been a long time for you. I am also glad that you resisted the temptation to drive while disqualified.

The number of disqualified drivers is incredibly high in NSW - I think a figure nearing 400,000 was bandied around just the other day and the police are daily catching disqualified drivers driving.

Its a problem here in the country because in many cases, the disqualifed drivers have no other transportation means so they simply drive regardless. There is also a tendancy for never licenced drivers to appear on the roads around here. I think its because the RTA has a habit of failing people two or three times and the cost of getting a licence starts to climb.

If any of our Ausmini boys in blue are reading this, a widespread operation to check for unlicenced driver on rural back roads is due.

Why ???? Because they are mostly also uninsured and my wife and kids are also on the same roads.

Yea mate completely resisted the urge to even thang around the block. Only time I've sat in the car was when my old man was driving or I was working on her in the garage.

I agree totally Mike.... it's long over due in the rural areas across the country not just NSW, because as you said they're usually unregistered too. I must say I'm glad I've learnt my lesson now rather then later. Better now under the circumstances I had then learn by hurting someone as well as when it'd effect my family and work down the track.

Its soooooooooooo good to be back :!: :!: :!:

i've been meaning to ask - does anyone know how long can it take for the police to send you notice of a speeding offence?

I think I may have sped past them with their radar gun on the M4 a few weeks back and was half-expecting something in the mail by now.

I did the same about six weeks back and still havn't heard although I was doing less than 110 in a 100 zone. Maybe the radar was set higher like 112 km for 100km zone.

The "radar" gun might also have been electronically detecting stolen or unregistered car rather than speed - they do that now

Cheers Mike, lets hope that neither of us get an ugle suprise in the post...

There were a few factors in my favour i guess,
1) I was about 10 ks over and i tapped the brakes a little when i saw the cop car, so if they give you 10% leeway (like they normally do in the UK) i should be OK as my average speed over the distance would have been even less
2) I was in the outside lane with other cars kind of partially in the way between the gun and me so hopefully they could not get a good reading

Hopefully it'll come to nothing but i've got a clean licence so 3 demerits is hardly going to kill me.

yeah i got done for excessive speed 44 kms over the limit so it means 3month automatic suspension 4 points and 600 big ones
sucks to be me
never got fined before until i got the mini in the year ive owned the mini ive been stung 3 times first for 34 over got off for 15 and over 250 big ones and 3 points second time 32 over 250 bigones and 3 points then 44 over 600 big ones and 4 points leaves me with 2 points and 1100 out of pocket but well my stupid fault i suppose

cheers bob

The only fine you will get in the post is if the offence is detected by a speed camera (pole mounted etc) or camera car (Stationary car with sign). If police are using radar or hand held lidar, they will stop you and give you the fine or send it via post but either way you will be stopped.

BTW 10% is an old wife's tale, 3km over the limit and you can get booked however this is very unlikely. The ADR in regards to speedo's and their accuracy is affects this.
