I'm currently re-building my cooper discs and would like to know what you all do to kill the rust and paint the parts.

What parts exactly? If you are talking calipers, I'm guessing you'd need some high temp material. Surface rust could be removed with wire brush wheel fitted to bench grinder and then wash in solvent (thinners) before painting.

I'd like to get some of that paint BMC used in the factory for painting suspension components. Tough as old boots & sticks like baby poo to a blanket

I can recommend VHT Caliper Paint for calipers.

I have used it on my Cooper S brakes - Gloss Black.

Looks good, not wanky.

Yopu don't really need to worry about the rust, just make it all nice and clean as possible before you go painting the metal.
